Auto Gearbox Won't Go Higher Than 3rd

Hi

Just bought an auto Mk1 Galaxy Tdi. Didn't notice on the test-drive, however, having driven a couple of hours, I noticed the revs were rather high(2700 to do a steady 60mph). Think it's not going above third. It could be fourth, but I don't think so. Also the gearshift will hardly ever let me shift down to 3-2-1, no matter how slow I drive or how low the revs are. Any sugguestions?

Some great reading on here. So now I know its in " limp home mode " . Removing battery did not help. Took it for diagnostics at a local place, but his software couldn't read the gearbox. Pointed to a gearbox specialist which was shut. Had a look underneath with the engine running and there is a drip coming from the box casing. Picked up 2ltr fluid from our friendly fraud main dealer at

did you buy this from a dealer or was it a private sale???

if dealer(fingers crossed for you)then take it back and throw keys at them.as you have forund IT could end up being an expensive fix????
